Why WhatsApp calling

Voice, without the phone system.

Your customers already have WhatsApp open. Now they can call you there — and you can call them back — on the number they already know.

Free to receive

When a customer calls your business, you are never charged. You only pay for outgoing calls — and only when the customer actually answers.

No new phone system

Use your verified WhatsApp Business number for both messaging and voice. Nothing to install, no SIP trunk, no separate line to manage.

Answered as a team

Calls ring your shared inbox and the first available agent picks up — with the full chat history right in front of them.

Shared inbox

Every call lands with your team.

A customer call is not a call to one person — it rings everyone who is available, and whoever answers first takes it. The conversation, the notes and the labels are already on screen, so there is no "let me pull up your account".

  • Ring all agents at once

Incoming calls ring every available agent — the first to answer takes the call, so customers are never left waiting.

  • Full context on the call

Answer with the entire conversation, contact fields and internal notes already open — no scrambling for history.

  • Logged in the same thread

Calls and messages live together in one timeline, so nothing gets lost when the conversation moves between agents.

Calling customers

How outgoing calls work.

To keep calling spam-free, customers approve a quick permission request before your business can call them. After that, calling is instant.

1

Send a call request

Ask the customer for permission to call, right from the conversation. One request per 24 hours, up to two per week.

2

They approve once

The moment the customer approves, you can call them immediately — no extra setup, no phone numbers to dial.

3

Call within 7 days

Call any time in the next 7 days. If a call is missed, retry inside the window without sending a new request.

Before you start

What you need to turn on calling.

WhatsApp Business Calling runs on the official WhatsApp Business API. If you are already on it, calling is a setting away. If you are on a QR connection, migrating is free and keeps your number and chat history.

On a QR connection?Migrate to the WhatsApp Business API — it is free, takes a few minutes, and you keep your existing number and chats. See how migration works.
  • WhatsApp Business API number

Connected via the official Cloud API — not a QR-code connection.

  • Verified Meta Business

Your Meta Business account must be verified.

  • Messaging limit of 2,000+/day

Your number must be on a messaging tier of at least 2,000 conversations per day.

  • Payment method on the account

A valid payment method on your WhatsApp Business Account is required for outgoing calls.

  • Calling enabled in Wassenger

Switch calling on for the number in your Wassenger Call Settings.

Where calling is availableIncoming calls work everywhere the WhatsApp Business API is available, except Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria and the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Outgoing calls are available in most countries, but not yet when your business number's country is the United States, Canada, Egypt, Vietnam or Nigeria. These limits are set by Meta and may change — see Meta's calling documentation.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about WhatsApp Business Calling.

Are incoming WhatsApp calls really free?
Yes. All incoming, customer-initiated calls to your WhatsApp Business API number are completely free. You are only billed for outgoing calls your business makes.
How are outgoing calls charged?
Outgoing calls are billed in 6-second increments, rounded up. The rate depends on the recipient country and how many minutes your business has called that country in the current month — the more you call a country, the lower your rate, and tiers reset monthly. Wassenger adds no markup, so you pay only Meta's official rates.
When does billing start for an outgoing call?
Only when the customer answers. Initiating a call, ringing and unanswered calls are never charged.
Can I call a customer any time?
Only after they approve a call permission request. Once approved, you can call immediately or any time within the next 7 days. You can send one request every 24 hours and up to two per week to the same customer.
Can my whole team use calling?
Yes. Your whole team can make and receive calls from the shared inbox, and you can restrict calling to specific agents if needed. Only one agent answers a given incoming call — whoever picks up first.
What do I need to make calls?
Just a computer with a microphone and speaker (or a headset), a web browser and an internet connection. Calling works right from your Wassenger inbox — no extra software or hardware required.

Give your customers a number they can call.

Turn on WhatsApp Business Calling and start taking calls where your customers already are. Free to receive, billed at Meta's rates, answered by your whole team.

One platform, not five tools

Voice calls live next to the shared inbox, campaigns, automations and the WhatsApp API — nothing to sync, nothing to switch between.
